I paste the string from the readme file at the end of the config file and save it. Open COD and add the RCONPASSWORD then connect to my server. The next time I connect to my server I get the BAD PASSWORD error. The config file string I pasted is gone.

Please help :(

1) Make sure you are editing the correct file: config_mp.cfg
2) Make sure you paste the
seta rconPassword ""
as the last comment in the file. Double check the lines.
3) When you save it, click SAVE and not SAVE AS. Using the SAVE AS command will save the file in .txt format, resulting in CoD creating a new config_mp.cfg file for you.

* Lastly, is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,
Moses

works like a charm. I am giving it out to my security admins tomorrow.

I am still...I followed the directions exactly. The question I have is there a limit to the length of the password you can type into the Set Password field?

Yes, I think i set it to about 11 characters. So use something short! It's also case sensitive!

Herb, make sure you do not have space between the new "seta line" and the previous square.
I did this the first time and had the same problem. Let us know.

I am having the same exact problem. I have gone back and verified that I have done everything correctly. The RCON password we currently use is short in length.

Any other ideas?

Thanks............

If you haven't already done so, then take one more step to verify it's not in the config_mp.cfg file:
-Open the file in Notepad (or another text editor) and click on EDIT>FIND. Then type in the Find box "rconpassword" and click FIND NEXT. If it's not there, then either:
a) The file wasn't saved correctly: make sure you use SAVE and not SAVE AS.
b) You left a space somewhere when you pasted it, maybe after the last square and the "seta" command.

Double check on these and let us know.

Yes that seems to be a common mistake is actually putting the pass in the config between the quotes. The line should be left "as is"

Hope this helps. If not just keep posting and we will work out the issue.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replies. I have gone back and checked again. The seta rconPassword "" command does not appear anywhere in the config_mp.cfg file, but yet I have gotten HLC RCON to work on my Server somehow. Very strange, but I guess I will just leave well enough alone............
