12 months from now when maybe a couple of patches have been released, will we be playing MoHA in clans and leagues or have EA caused too much damage before it will take off ?

I ask this because i want to have the opinions of the community, i run a clan for MoHA and tbh i dont want to waste time and money on something that is a lost cause.

My personal opinion is that really, deep down inside we are all just optimistic, forgiving, drooling, technofile game-junkies who really really want the things in life we like to succeed . The more we like something the more incensed we get when someone F$%#s with it! All the anger and the vocalization - it's the same thing you find in a bar full of the devoted Red Sox fans when they are out there stinkin up the field... a few good hits and you can feel the love. ;)
Just look at the large number of people still playing COD2 and compare it to the steaming pile of turd that the COD2 MP was when it was first foisted upon us.

Airborne will never be the winner that it should have been. You need to come charging outta the gate like elephants, to stampede the competition and establish a real presence in the clans and the tournaments and create that buzz that gets the whole thing goin... MOH:A landed on our doorsteps like the three-headed lovechild of Fat Elvis and coked up Britney, and that's gonna take some serious magic to overcome. But if they really have the commitment to the cause and they provide the tools and the patches and the servers, then it can come back from the brink and we'll be playin it... just not in the numbers that it woulda been if it had been done right. :salute:

I have to agree..

For all I want/wanted this game to succeed, it's been a let down..

Having been playing the Crysis multiplayer beta, which is incredible, and CoD4 on the horizon, I cannot see it lasting long.. Just play it while you can.

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it..

IF, and that's a big if, they get the patches out to correct this mess there will be a Airborne community. It will most likely be comprised of us franchise die-hards from this point forward for the most part. Some people just play the latest thing and move on to the next latest thing, while others happy with what they have, play it for years. Another thing to consider is that some people are still bitter about PA and may not even try Airborne now at all even if it is patched up later. Even my team has people saying it's PA all over again. I'm glad I never became caught up in all that, but after waiting 20 months for Airborne I now understand what a lot of you went though with PA to some degree.

So yes in some respect a Airborne community will come out of this, but not in the numbers it could have been. Some of us, like myself, only play WW2 based shooters so those other titles really don't hold interest for some.

I still play/mod for MoH:Breakthrough almost daily.

Chair said it right.. Once the patch and ded-server comes out, 50% of the people ranting here will forget all about the fact that we have been fooled by EA and will continue to play MOHA. The other 50% will denounce EA and move to other titles. What EA doesn't realize is that after 3 or 4 flops with no support and full of lies, that 50% of 50% of 50% leaves EA with little to no community support.

As a clan leader of about 40 members and counting, there were two games we were going to compete in and we were counting on a satisfactory release from both. World In Conflict and MoH:AB. I am not optomistic about this patch because it in my opinion is way TOO LATE ! This is the second time we picked a game before hand and zero'ed in on it and unfortunately both were EA's babies. Pacific Assault and now Airborne. I am pretty sure we are done with WW2 games now since this in my opinion had something different in it and it maybe time to move on. It is a real shame that EA did not follow thru on using what we game them for input with this title, and they asked for it which makes it even harder to understand and comprehend. The bad taste in my team's mouth from PA and now this...

I believe and could still be proven wrong (if so I will apologize) but I don't think the patch will remove the bad taste in my mouth from EA doing it to us twice and I am not expecting this patch to be anything more than a glorified listen server.

To be honest there is a slight thread of hope of playing this game as a team but that is waning daily :(

I have up to this point really believed in the MoH franchise (PA excluded) but now I don't think it's worth the time or effort and I believe we will move on to modern times games.

CoD4 looks to be on our horizion. It's a shame this franchise has been moved to the gutter by this WEAK EFFORT by EA because it looked to be alot of fun.

I think it was a terrible timing on EA to really screw up with all these new games coming up.

I will never buy a EA title again on the release day..........dumb been burnt twice with them PA and A

Patch comes out and is not a true dedicated server over 12 man and they dont fix that stupid user name problem the game is dead and not having the modding tools will really hurt them as well but whats the point of that we wont have a ftp redirect, back to square one have everyone download the map first before getting on the server.

Moving on Next......................CoD4 is where it will be at. or crysis or Quake wars seems like they are very popular titles with people these days but for our clan it will be CoD4

I HOPE COD4 will be the savior, but then again we all hoped the same for Airborne. I have to laugh at everyone saying they will never buy another EA game again (myself included). We all said it after PA, many did after BF2 and the ranking......

My clan has bailed on MOH:A, we're going to wait for some of the other releases this fall and winter and determine POST RELEASE what we are going to install on our servers. One thing for sure, we will NOT be installing MOH:A or any other EA game. These bastards have lied to us 3 times now, I'm not going to fall for their garbage again.

My clan is going to stick it out. We are in no hurry because there is plenty of other stuff to play in the meantime. COH opposing fronts, world of conflict, QW ET and soon the orange box or whatever it was called. We personally like the WWII genre. If the patch sucks.. we move on. I have spent thousands of dollars on games.. 50bucks is not going to break me... I have a plethra of games on the shelf.. many great titles but never caught my fancy.

What makes me sick is all the ridiculous posts over at the EA forums. If you really sit back and read some of the those post and the constant gripes.. well its kind of like Mcdonalds getting sued for hot coffee and people getting fat on supersized soda's and meals.

Ok.. so people are not happy with the game.. Does this mean they have to lower themselves to trailer trash standards and flame anyone that responds or neglects to respond to their questions that were already answered or someone else has asked 10 times over.

Maybe some people disagree with me and I expect that but does it always have to turn into a whine contest? This whole crying game over the patch is kind of beyond ridiculous. I buy stuff all the time and next to 100% of what I buy is never perfect.. I bought a 2008 Hayabusa today.. sometimes the gear indicator neglects to show 0 when in neutral.. do I start a flame war at Suzuki's site? No.. I make a complaint.. and sensibly respond to their actions. I sure don't have a box of tissues next to my PC for moments like this with MOH AB.

You get a lot further with people being civil and its anything but civil at their forums. yeah.. I think EA bombed so far.. but am I going to sit and whine over and over and shed a tear? No.. I'm going to fire up COH and play it until the patch comes out and if the patch flops I'll either return the game or shelf it for later.

The game will never have a chance with all the bad hype and misrepresentation of whats said if people keep going on and on over at the the EA forums.. and what of BH? Seems like everyone wants to bust his balls and why?

My clans plan.. wait.. when the patch comes out host.. and if all these other people leave the game.. fine.. fewer people for us to compete with hosting the game.

I'm sorry if I seem uncaring but my god.. its turned into damn near a scandle that the news media will be playing over and over on the TV.. only difference is its internet forums not TV.

I also love how everyone has cozied up to COD4... HAha... and what of that COD3 pc version? and what of that patch that took a year to release for COD2? Yeah.. COD4 is going to be perfect.. We'll see... well not me. I don't care for the COD series and i don't care for modern warfare over WWII.

Flame me all you want.. I just think this whole AB thing is gone beyond ridiculous and people need to move on or be patient. Just my opinion.

Frankly, I agree with the best part of your post, It saddens me though to see the game publishers aggressively and unfairly take advantage of the trusting users/consumers. Nothing justifies that type of business practice. The root cause of all this consternation is Microsoft's money being thrown all over the PC game publishers to induce them to cater to the XBOX360... Obviously, it is having its deleterious effect.

Addtionally, about CoD4;

Congratulations to Tally first of all and then....

We thank you for the truth about ZEROFORYOU, Infinity Ward, Activision and CoD4. It appears these GREEDY publishers seem to have all been BORG'ed by Microsoft.

« on: October 04, 2007, 07:36:07 AM »

After chatting a long time with one of the Lead Design devs from Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars, he invited me up to their HQ for talks/interview/fun day next week. Our talks started after he had heard of me through my modding for Doom 3, and had seen some of the stuff I had done for a Doom 3 mod project a long time ago (called "Oblivion").

Splash Damage are located in the UK, in Bromley, Kent. They started as a community-lead modding team, who went Pro. they made Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. This won several Game of the Year and Editor’s Choice awards, a BAFTA nomination, and continues to be one of the most popular online FPS titles.

I have a real soft spot for id Tech, as I started my online experience with Doom II, and John Carmack is a big hero of mine. He continues to innovate, and his latest significant contribution - Megapixel - will revolutionize mapping. It would be a real honor for me to have the chance to join up with this exciting development.

Also, as they are in the UK, it looks ideal for me, as I had practically given up thinking I would ever get the chance to get into game development without having to make the move to the USA. I really cant do that, as my "better half" is a Professional, and has her own career to think of (far more important than anything I can muster).

So, why am I telling you all this? What's this to do with COD and IW? Well, I love COD, but I can't continue to support a game developer whose so-called "Community Relations Manager" ignores PMs and emails from its fan-base after having initially invited them away for a fun trip, and then simply ignoring them as if they didnt exist. Its just insulting.

At first I thought it was just me, that maybe I had done something, or said something which had upset someone. But, apparently, its others as well. Several members of the PC community, who were out in LA in June, have had similar stories, with no responses to their emails asking what was going on.

Oh, and we still haven't received our COD4 T shirts. Utter insult, that one.

I said from the get-go that this was/is IW's last chance with me, to keep me in the community, working for the fan-base, and producing custom content and being a general cheer-leader for them. I said that if they get it wrong this time out, I'm gone. I really, really cant sit around forums for another year listening to all the upset fans (or, should that be "former fans"?).

They started out great, with invites and personal chats to key members of the community. Then, we got news of the Beta, and the PC community - of which I consider myself a part of - kicked off because it looked like the 360 was being "favoured" again, just like they were with COD2. We were assured by 402 that this wasn't the case. PC would get its fair share of exciting things.

Bullcrap! Its the old IW shuffle, blowing smoke up our asses to keep us placated. We still don't know the answers to the nagging questions about COD4 MP, and its only 30 days to shipping.

Are we worried? You betcha.

Any sign of an answer to these questions from our "Community Relations Manager"? Hell, no! He's too busy advertising himself on MSN as "402 360".

The COD community has lost loads of gifted modders and mappers in the last year. A lot of them simply because of the debacle that was COD2. I don't expect IW even knows about that, as they sure come across a lot of the time as rarefied Ivory Tower dwellers, but us inside the community sure do, and its really sad that this could even happen in the 21st century, given the information technology revolution.

I'm not saying its all done and dusted with COD, but if community relations don't improve, or there are significant grievances with the PC version of COD4, it will all be over for me.

Well now, there you have it folks... again, I thank Tally for the heads up and the truth. Most of all, good luck on that interview.

Good luck, Tally! I hope you get the position. I have moved from CoD to ETQW, for the same reasons as you. I'll probably run a CoD4 server, but I doubt I will play it more that occasionally. IW has not changed their attitude toward PC users, and has devoted 98% of their time to Micro$oft. It is what I expected. They could release a demo tomorrow, or on the day of launch. It will not matter. IMOHO they have killed the best community on the net, all for the sake of XBOX.

******

Obviously, the close in observers have a better grasp on the evolution of the Call of Duty Franchise. Their moving away from IW/CoD/Activision, as we see they are, marks a sad day for online PC gaming. That to me, its an ominous sign of another disastrous IW/Activision disappointment. Perhaps, the final blow for many Online PC Community users.

One day, these greedy publishers will wake up to the fact they've been thoroughly and completely had by Microsoft. The "easy money" MS makes available now might satisfy their stockholders today but what about tomorrow??

When reality sets in, and they realize that all Microsoft wanted was to SUCK them IN and then allow the cards to fall where they may. They'll be very sorry!! For by then, they will have lost the vast majority of the Online PC Community. All because of theiir greed over the lucrative "appearances" of the future of the XBOX 360. That future will be short lived!!

Of course, the final footfall will come when the Console Kiddies move UP to PC's for everything they do as they mature. They'll grow weary of the limitations imposed by a console and by moving up to PC's they'll force the Console market to, once again, cycle.

The ensuing Console Market Blight will then set in. Thus, crippling the greedy Game publishers who fell for Microsoft's bullshit.

Then, the Devil (Microsoft) will "do the final dirty deed" as the publishers they beguiled lay prone and bleeding over the empty cash drawers begging for Microsoft to "buy up what's left of them".

Which of course, MS will mercifully do "for a song" as they continue on their greedy, aggressive plan to MONOPOLIZE the world's entire computing community.

Once Microsoft has a firm grip on the Game publishers, (they all but own or control just about everything else either directly or indirectly in computing), they'll then have "The Monopoly" they have long sought. (Computer GAMES!! Thus, mesmerizing the world's children in favor of Microsoft from a tender young, impressionable age)

Microsoft's long range plan of Full Control over the PC Community in its entirety in the form of a MONOPOLY in the USA and a CARTEL in the world of business will finally be realized and almost impossible to breakup.

(Just look at AT&T, the US Gov't broke it up in the 1980's and its all back together again)

I see the USA, Canada, EU and the other Governments of Nations not sucked in or beguiled by Microsoft dragging this beast into court and slamming, not slapping, Microsoft into near oblivion.

NO Corporation operated for profit should be allowed to wield such total power (economically, technologically, politically and socially) over the world's people and entire Nations!

Fist congrats to Tally and good luck with the job interview. I know when I sat down and talked to him in person at the last IW community event. He went on about his passion for ID and what they have done.

I really hope he gets this job and TBH it's the only thing that will keep the PC side going. Dedicated people getting into the business side of the gaming industry and eventually getting to a position to make a difference (office next door to the bean counters). Not that I don't have faith in Tally rallying the troops from within a game company.

If we had community people in the producers seat, I bet all games including console games would be better. However they would need to make sure they lay down the ground rules before going into development with cooperate.

Would love to see a developer who had pride in their games and not take shit from the higher ups, wow I can't wait for a company to come along like.... hey wait right now Valve and ID are almost like that

Would really love to see a franchise on the edge of a cliff, get someone not in the industry drive an expansion or next gen franchise title. Would be a good collage experiment to see what works and what does not.

Sorry, back on topic.

I really hope IW pulls this off and TBH have not had much contact with then since last IW PC summit. I've also been on the road with RL work.

It all comes down to this:
We now need a PC demo for each game type before we can purchase, too much is at stake with developers and publishers hiding things from their customers trying to sell a game on blind faith.

Look what happened to Airborne, it's really a shame but it's now show me a MP demo before I show you my money.

When I saw what came out of the box with Airborne I was immediately looking for a replacement for it and logically turned towards CoD4. You are correct and I have that demo on my 360, to be honest it plays great on the 360, and if it's coded correctly for the PC it looks to be pretty good. Mind you I will not suggest this title to any of my members based on this demo since it's not PC. I won't ever select a game for our team that does not have a demo available for tryouts, period!
