It is very difficult for IW or any Developer to know EXACTLY what the Multiplayer Base will want when it comes to specific weapon/playstyle details. For every person that may like a certain characteristic of game play or weapon feature, there will always be another set of players that dislike it to the point of refusing to play on the Server.

The key word here is SERVER... If this is an online patch we are talking about, doesn’t it make sense to see how the SERVERS, (the hosts and their communities) wish to play COD? If you go on a player per player rant across the thousands of COD servers you will get nowhere. It is frustrating for the actual hosts that run these servers to communicate to a developer among thousands of casual player posts. These hosts and their communities, many of which are NON profit, invest great time and money in their servers which essentially support and promote IW’s product (which IS for profit).

COD has been out for several months, server hosts and their supporters have spent many hours setting up a particular play style including weapon, movement and other UNIQUE characteristics. It is therefore in the best interest of everyone to leave the control of the weapons/playstyles or what we call "MODS", in the hands of the people that RUN and Fund the servers. While it can be debated for thousands of threads how a sniper weapon should behave, the run speed, etc, the fact is no one would disagree that the ability to control these would be best left to the server hosts..

The ability to MOD and set up a server that is unique to a specific playstyle is indeed one of the great successes in Multiplayer Online Gamming! We take a step Backwards if the developers start coding in CORE changes which are effectively (MODS), that can not be easily undone. Even worse, these core changes can disrupt whole servers that have come to enjoy a specific style of play. When you take away and change the customizations and specifics, you destroy a Fundamental Motivation for running a dedicated game server in the first place.

The Community wants BUG fixes not unchangeable GAME MODS. If the Developer does introduce major weapon/playstyle changes then these change should really be tog gable via the SERVER host's control. This is a key point I think all here would agree on.. We need to ask IW to consider this.

Well one thing about that stament
I am not for the Patch they restricted the jump to much and sniping is very hard to do now.I agree that both were to easy before and needed some work.
Now if you try to jump on a box or something and if you dont make it you are a sitting duck.

Servers:
I run a Server and I agree with your statment that the Server admin can run it the way he sees fit.
But and it is a big but.
Because of all the Ladder rules I wont have a choice how to set it up,because they require the patch to be on the server.

But because of all the complaining the ladders suspended all activety for now.

Effective immediately all League and Ladder matches for Call of Duty are postponed for one week. During this time period the ladders will be locked to challenges until we mandate what version we will be using in the future. This time period will give players and teams alike to scrim and pub on the patch to make informed opinions of what they think of it.

The CoD staff will be evaluating this patch over the weekend to determine our own views of what we think about the patch. Be assured we will try to whats best for the community and your opinions are more than welcome. Enjoy the Superbowl weekend.

You bring up another good point here,

Ladder competition is very dependant on the stock settings of the game.. and therefore the weapons changes is more likely to be permanent with ladders then with individual servers..

Some individual server MIGHT come up with some unique workarounds to UNDUE what the patch did as far as weapon/gameplay changes, this is probably less likely to happen in a ladder.

Did the patch do any good at all? It seems it did more harm than good. I like the fact the bunny hopping stuff is more under control, but that's about it. The sniper rifle was much better before the patch in my opinion. The patch made using the sniper rifle a pain, now I tend not to pick it as a weapon at all, regardless of the map. I noticed even when you are kneeling the rifle is all over the place, of course this is just my opinion and should be taken as such.

Now issues I have are with custom maps and find a friend which I used quite a bit, plus I can't find a dedicated.cfg file creator that utilizes the new gameplay and settings of HQ. I can't stand waiting for 45 seconds all the freeking time.

Thats just all my opinion, take it for that.
