I have a suggestion, For this to work there needs to be someone reading this that can talk to EA dev team. If that is you guys like the suggestion...
EA could package all of the files needed to run a dedi server available for download on EA Link. There could be a charge, sorry guys but EA only do stuff if we pay them. We should have no issues with buying a copy of the game for our servers.
It gets around the problem of up loading the whole game from homes to our servers. Provides an excellent way of delivering patches, and official maps packs and such. Cos you know that they are going to charge for them... So why not bite the built and stump some cash. This is a way to motivate EA to getting this right. Right for us and right for EA...
We get the software we need to run successful games servers. EA gets the revenue flow needed to keep the share holders happy and continue further development of the game.

Not a chance!
Admins PAY for the hardware, Admins PAY for the rentals, Admins PAY for the bandwidth and Admins also pay for the boxed version to be able to play the game. You suggest we pay for the Dedicated Server software too? Are you serious? No other publisher charges extra for dedicated server software. Remember, by setting up a server, Admins are SUPPORTING both EA and the USERS.
Come talk to me after the 17th of September... when we see exactly what the MP PC Dedicated Server is all about and just what we can offer the players. We all may be singing a different tune.
As of right now, buying the PC version of the game itself is questionable.

I would love it if EA would simply release server software like Battlefield. Download it, install it, and run it! My suggestion is that maybe EA could use EA Link in the way that Valve uses Steam.
As for us admins paying for everything, you make it sound like we are some type of benevolent online gods of gaming... LOL Yes I pay my clan fees each year, the money is used to run the clan and pay any expenses. If the expenses are a little higher then we all pay a little more.
We have decided to play a game that is made by a commercial company. One that has shareholders, that's primary function is to make as much money as possible. They are not here to entertain us for the hell of it.
We are not doing them a "favor" by running games servers. They will make their cash with the single player game. There is money to be earned by a successful online community. But think of all of the numptys using XBox and PS3 this is going to be cash cow for EA. Whether we like it or not from a revenue point of view us PC gamers are a pain in the arse. Demanding this and that, stamping our little feet.
My point is this, They are in it for the money! We want something beyond their original plans. Maybe we should think about paying for it...

battlefield 2 like server files, good idea, semi large game on the pc, server files downloading a good 500MB+(linux), that is reasonable for uploading or downloading it with ssh to your server from a site of the game developer.
that part sounds good, but paying for serverfiles, no
for hosts it might be interesting that it would be steam like if they have to buy only one game and can use it tons of times copied from that one game.
but for clans with their own dedi servers, that would indeed mean buying more, ok we to get the money of our members, but that would mean in our case or hosting less servers or rais the contributions, only for the benefit of the of big companys.
we the gamers already payed them with buying a game or going to buy a game, for that they make games.
if they only make a SP game, most even wont buy the game, so if they want to sell they will have to make a MP game.

True, console sales are a significant component, but sales of even the hottest single player games taper off dramatically over a short time. Sales of games with an enduring multiplayer component continue at respectable levels for long after they are no longer the "hot game" on the shelves - and they have better sales figures for add-ons, expansion packs and sequels.
Also:
Single player game = $40 from me.
Multiplayer game = $40 x 24 copies for the office.

OK thinking about it maybe I'm wrong about this it just I want something to work, I would like to be running a dedi-server for the guys in the clan... I will wait until the 17th to see what EA has come up with.
The reason I'm so unsure about this is that the failure of MoH:PA killed the clan I was in. We played MoH:BT for years we were a very competitive clan and what with PA being so weak and Counter Strike Source being so strong our clan went tit's up.
I can see it happening all over again with MoH:A what with CoD:MW just around the corner. This just has to work!!!

you're not the only one who want this to run good and very soon, 40 of our cod2 playing members really need a new game to play, and they prefer a WW2 over modern weapons.
so or this has to work or someone will have to come a WW2 mod for CoD2, cause otherwise i don't know what game to bring up for them, cause most of them don't like RO
