View Full Version : Admin Server Upload and File Swap Group

Well, it looks like we will be uploading over 7GB of Airborne for the dedicated server when it becomes available. :(

I think we should form a group of capable admins that can privately share the upload responsibilities.

Something along the lines of this:

1. Team designated before launch and private communications method set up (private forum?)
2. Game comes out.
3. Game files divided up into 'chunks'.
4. Admins 'check out' chunks to upload to prevent/reduce duplication of upload efforts.
5. Admins report back when chunks are completely uploaded.
6. FTP info is swapped and server admins transfer directly from other dedicated servers the parts that they are missing.

Without a system like this, I can see it literally taking DAYS to get 7GB uploaded via the typical home Cable Modem.

This would of course require a group of people who know what they are doing with FTP account setup and be able to do things orderly.

I am up for a group like this.

I luckily can also upload from work, which has a split T1 and uploads a lot faster than my home cable modem. I usually buy the game during lunch, run home, install, kick off a FTP upload, burn a couple of CD's worth of files, and run back to work to upload those CDs from there too... lol

Sad, but it still took me more than a whole day to upload all of CoD2, and that was not even HALF the size of Airborne...

Would anyone else be interested and capable of being involved in a group like this?

Great Idea Bullet I think that jim could organise a list and maybe we could either communicate by PM or he could set aside a private room.

Either way I am willing to help as best I can.

Sounds like a very good plan Bullet.

We could break up the files between some of us to quickly upload (1 day instead of 2 LOL) . I will put something together to test and based on the SP demo can can figure out the directory structure of the game.

I'd be in too but my servers are all down. We were going to run them up for MOHA but the clan is not interested in putting up $250 to run up the servers until the game has some feedback.

We'll need MD5s of all the files as well to assure we're not getting corrupt or "tinkered with" files.

I did this same thing with COD2. I had four or five customers helping me upload it to my servers. We had servers up in record time, it was sweeeet!

I have made the request to BH to see if he can have EA give us access to download the entire dedicated files from the internet.

From my gaming box which is super fast, I would have the 7GB downloaded in about 2 hours.

I would also be very interested in this. We are UK based so we could help out for the EU admins...

Small question would there be any CD security issues? if we are all going to be running the same thing. Or do we just need the files in the right directorys??? Sorry I have been admin'ing games servers that don't requre the full game to be installed.

Add my name to the hat. I have a 1 terabyte file host that would work great.

Count me in. I have multiple dedicated machines that I can put to work. I also think it's a great idea to ask BH to make something happen; just plain bs that you have to upload this much data to get a ded server.

How about Bit-torrent? We could password it to stop the pirates getting hold of it. Or alter it so it wont play as a game but work as the server files for our use. After all isn't that what Bit-Torrent was made for??? Distribution of large files without over stressing the original upload server...

Count the Splat Clan in. If we can be of any help with our hardware please feel free to ask. I've had a copy of the game shipped to our providers (INX) for them to install on the server but is it definitive that the retail version will NOT contain the dedi server files?

We hope, I'm still waiting on word from EA regarding how this patch will work in relation to uploading files early.

Add my name to the list for uploading if needed.
May be able to host some files as well once we find out what we need.

You can add my team's dedicated box to this circle if needed.

According to BlackHat on a post on the EA forums:

easiest way is to install locally, patch locally, install the DS locally, then upload the game folder to the target PC.

I think it's time we did this folks.
Only issue I can see is NOT sharing the dedicated server ini file.
Everything else is fair game :)

Means nothing to me, but apparently this is text of what the patch did to the original install. Instead of uploading the whole game again, just upload the files the patch changed.

I got this here:http://medalofhonor.totalgamingnetwork.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1167

I have just finished the 7.5GB upload to my game server. It is patched and has the DS already installed. If anyone needs help with the files, please let me know here.
