Also IGN looks back on June 6th 1944 via Airborne and some new media
June 6, 2007 - On June, 6, 1944, exactly 63 years ago today, the Allies began the invasion of Normandy. Known as Operation Overlord, the campaign in Western Europe paved the way for the eventual liberation of Paris, followed by the fall of Berlin.

To commemorate the largest seaborne invasion in human history, depicted in a number of books, movies and videogames throughout the years, we'll examine Operation Neptune, in which the 82nd Airborne landed behind enemy lines to secure the small village of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, just west of Utah beach. To do so, we'll look at Medal of Honor: Airborne (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/794/794432.html), the upcoming World War II shooter that will give you a different perspective on the invasion -- from several thousand feet above the fray with a parachute strapped to your back.
