New server help

Hello all, I have rented a server for CoD and now i need to know a couple of things.What do I need to download so I can access the ftp? Is there a good program for the Rcon?Also is there a step by step explantion of these programs.Any help will be appreciated.

cute ftp does a good job a ftp-ing to your new server and I believe is free.

rcon can be done threw the built in console but I would recommend the HLC mod. This wraps the console in a gui so it make your job as server admin so much easier.

Your provider should have a sample cfg file already for you to use. You will want to download this first via ftp. then upload your edited cfg with all your server variables.

ok i have a ftp program and went through a tutorial and understand how it work.Now the thing is when i access the server files I cant open any it says not a file or not a directory.Also i dowmloaded the HLC put in pw and when i do a command it says bad password.Any ideas do i need to change my pw?

What you need to do is download the whatever_they_call_your_server.cfg file to your local computer.

Then edit this file with notepad, do not use word or wordpad as it will add formating that will mess up your cfg file.

The basic thing is to change the:

your server name
your MOTD - message of the day or welcome message
and your rconpassword. This is the password you use with the hlc mod. Once the cfg file is complete then save it, keeping the cfg extension and reupload it over writing the old one on the server.

Then restart your server and the new cfg file will take effect and you will be able to rcon using HLC
