EA and Dice started a new concept of booster packs for their BattleField 2 series. These very inexpensive add-ons give us new maps, weapons, vehicles and props to continue playing this very popular game.

Say what you will but I think EA is on to something here. By selling, yes selling booster packs we continue to get support for the basic game. We also get fresh new content at a quicker pace then full blown expansions or the next episode in a long running series.
Battlefield 2: Armored Fury overview: Prepare to defend the homeland! The latest booster pack from the Battlefield 2 team, brings all-out war to American soil for the first time.
Battlefield 2: Armored Fury drops players into a deadly confrontation between the Middle Eastern Coalition, Chinese Army and U.S. forces following an attempted invasion of America.

American Theater Special Service RibbonThis first review will cover the map Midnight Sun. We will be posting followups to the other two maps, Operation Harvest and Operation Road Rage shortly.
As the name implies there is a lot of vehicles available for each team on each map, in this booster pack. With the exception of this map, Midnight Sun the other two maps have large open areas for some very nice armor battles.
However this map does not offer much in the way of open fields but instead it has some tight control points spread around the map so the infantry guys can strut their stuff.

Several key bridges keep the armored guys at bay. Control the bridges in this map and you can control the map itself.

One of the first things I noticed, while jumping into a Littlebird on this map, was the active radar that you and your team mates can see. It's almost like a predator UAV in the 1.2 patch but you have a real life pilot manning the vehicle. Not only does the little bird have active radar, it has twin machine guns and space for two additional unprotected crew members.

This map also features the US A-10 as well as the Chinese equivalent, Q-5

[break=map overview]
The Map Midnight Sun takes place at the Alaskan Port of Valdez. The Chinese have captured the port and it's up to US forces to retake this port back!
The Chinese forces start at the west end of the map, while the US forces start at the eastern side of this map. The map itself has a wide river that separates the map from South West up towards the North East. There are several Bridges that cross this river.

This map offers both sides some air support vehicles but the focus is on ground control. Each side has two control points on their side of the river. Keep in mind that we only have 32 player maps available for testing so control points should be different on large 64 player maps.
All the maps in Armored fury are impressive, well thought out and very enjoyable. If your an infantry type of guy this is your map but be assured there are plenty of vehicles armored and unarmored available to get you where you wan to go.
Here is where we start to see some of the newer models/props for Armored Fury. The first one is one of the new types of bridges.
Short Truss bridge:

Unfortunately these bridges are not destructible.
While there are many more new props in Armored Fury, you'll have to wait for the other map reviews.
