You mean to tell me that if an ISP wants to run a windows based server they have to go buy the game but if they run a Linux server it is downloadable? That is just crap. There is no reason the windows dedicated server should not be downloadable and ready the day of launch.

the linux downloadable server is only the server.exe file.. it has no maps, no sounds, no nothing. you still need the game to get the rest of the files on a linux setup.

Yep! What he said, you still have to upload (or copy) the remaining files from the CD, otherwise it will have no maps, configuration files, netword drivers, etc. etc.

It is only the executable that launches the linux server application, which is useless by itself.

Grrr, in work until late tonight (east coast) So there is no dedicated (small) exe to upload for windows. you have to upload and install both discs?

I know the linux you only need to upload disc one

Yup currently at 700mb uploaded, win2K is what we run.

I simply zipped the whole game after install and sent it up. It is exactly like RTCW. There was no dedicated server for RTCW either, it used the wolfmp.exe, then you regulated it by adding some commands in the syntax for the service, everything else was configurable in the server.cfg

You wont save much space by zipping it either. I do it for corruption purposes only.

my 1st win2k REMOTE server. once you uploaded it, did you install it? Then what - how did you get past the no CD?

I'm currently uploading both CDs at a whopping 30K sec. only 11 more hours

If it's like RTCW you won't have to worry about the CD Key on a dedicated server, just upload the installed files and run a dedicated command line. I'll know for sure in about 5 hours :)

Hehe - yea initially, I was going to upload the binaries until I noticed that it would take me 10 hours to complete the upload due to the poor upload speeds I get from my cable provider. Instead, I drove to the datacenter and popped the cd into the server and installed it.

use Daemon Tools to get past the no cd problems. But you shouldn't have to actually run the game once you install the cd on the server, just run the dedicated server.
