Thanks Iron for posting this. I have ment to do this a while ago. For a podcast from secrity now regarding Hamachi check my reply below.

Some of the ssrangers have tested it and it works good. simple and good for gaming LAN part's no more looking for networks just setup and start. Put in name of a network and password give it to your friends run the same game and your off. We had 6 ppl playing at one time so try it out. tested with bf2, cod2, farcry, swat4, rainbow six lockdown.

What it isWith Hamachi you can organize two or more computers with an Internet connection into their own virtual network for direct secure communication.
- Hamachi is fast, secure and simple. It is also free.
- What's in it for me
- Think - LAN over the Internet.
- Think - Zero-configuration VPN.
- Think - Secure peer-to-peer.
- Access computers remotely. Use Windows File Sharing. Play LAN games. Run private Web or FTP servers. Communicate directly. Stay connected. TechnologyHamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private networking application with an open security architecture and NAT-to-NAT traversal capabilities.- Hamachi is the first application to mix seemingly unrelated networking technologies in one powerful package to deliver an unprecedented level of peer-to-peer connectivity. More ...

SecurityHamachi is secure. All Hamachi communications are encrypted and authenticated with industry-standard algorithms and protocols. Nobody will be able to see what two Hamachi peers are talking about. Not even us.
- However what is equally important - Hamachi security architecture is completely open meaning that its detailed description is available for the review to anyone interested. More ...

Ease of UseA special effort went into designing and polishing Hamachi user interface. The result is sleek, simple and intuitive, while still very much functional. Everything you need, nothing you don't.Hamachi software contains no spyware, bannerware or any other -ware unrelated to its purpose. And it never will.

"Hamachi" Rocks!

This week Leo and I discuss and describe the brand new, ready to emerge from a its long development beta phase, ultra-secure, lightweight, high-performance, highly-polished, multi-platform, peer-to-peer and FREE! personal virtual private networking system known as "Hamachi (http://www.hamachi.cc/)". After two solid weeks of testing and intense dialog with Hamachi's lead developer and designer, I have fully vetted the system's security architecture and have it running on many of my systems. While I am travelling to Toronto this week, Hamachi is keeping my roaming laptop securely and directly connected to all of my machines back home. Don't miss this one!

Steve is also working on a great how to guide as well.

I would like to also recommend Steve's security now pod casts

- how the internet works part 1
- how the internet works part 2

He also has a bunch of podcasts for routers, ports and other security issues.

Again, please do not think you need an ipod or itunes to listen to any podcast. They are simply an mp3 or wma file. However if you do have itunes, you can subscribe for free via a link that will automaticly download each weeks episode to itunes for you.

This is the only reason I bought my new nano, for podcasts.

FPSadmin little secret: We will be starting a FPSadmin podcast shortly.

Woody and I have been using Hamachi for about 2 months (from our office laptops to home systems and game servers), and it works just fine.

However, potential big gotcha...remember SECURITY. Once you open a connection from outside it is advisable to secure your shares. Windows shares are a major security hole, and anyone with access can grab any share through this VPN. Secure your shares with both share-level and NTFS permissions, and, where possible, use the '$' share construct to hide them from browsing. If you start giving out passwords and pre-shared keys to your friends, be sure that your Windows system is secure first.

-OD over and out:salute:

our whole clan uses Hamachi, Great for testing new mods or maps or new configs without loading onto main server.

BFME works but a little slow on it.

COD2 and most FPS work awesome. Just remember that standard bandwith usuage rules still apply (AKA u need the upload for the # of peeps).

Actually, you'll want to allow a bit more bandwidth. Hamachi is encrypting everything with AES256 which ads a bit of overhead, in the packet and as far as CPU usage is concerned.
