i have a pentium 4 xeon 2,8 prossecor
and 2 gig memory
and a 80 gig sata
on a 100mbit full duplex connection

how many slots can i host?

And how many gig of datatransfer do i have when i host that many slots

i don't know if it is a difference when i host it on linux or windows please help me

You should be able to run a couple 32 player servers on that. the problem everyone is talking about right now is the bandwidth the game is using.

You may want to jump on the linux mailing list. You can find the info out in the sticky at the top under linux.

Esitmating how much resources your going to use is alot like asking exactly how much gas does it take to drive from NY to Florida. There's really no great answer.


It depends a great deal on how busy your server is, what maps, custom maps, custom mods etc. There are a ton of varibles to consider.

We have machines with 5 games on them that use less then 200Gb's per month and others with the same amount of game that push upwards of 6-700GB's per mo. So as you can see it's not something that's easy to answer ;)


COD2 isn't "terrible" on bandwidth. At least not as bad as everyone thinks. Most of it is COD2 is hot right now and most servers get alot of playing so bandwidth is going to be higher then some of the other games.
