I'm getting ready to throw up a dedicated COD2 Server. Last time when I setup a UO server, I didn't install the game on the server box, I just copied the files over and then created a shortcut to run the game (with the appropriate parameters).

Can I do the same thing with COD2 - and does this mean that I do not have to purchase an extra copy for my dedicated server (as I do not actually have to enter the cd-key anywhere?) -- or do I have to enter it to apply patches? To enter the Cd key, do I install the game, or just make a registry entry?

-Sorry if these are noob questions, setting up servers is not my specialty! :)

You can just copy the files over, then export your registry entries from your computer and load them onto the server and it will act as if you had installed the game to the server. This way when patches come out, you can simply download the patch installer to the server and execute it. (How I did my 2 UO servers and patches)
