Was pb not included???

No PB...I heard from Woody that IW thinks that KillCam and "Pure" is enough. Excuse me? Since when?
Can you imagine the hassles with KillCam? "He cheated!" "No, I didn't" "Yes you did!" until we're all sick of it. Is a server admin expected to watch the KillCams 24x7?
And "Pure" has never been enough...we all know that. Since the game is out, though, we'll have to wait for a patch if they take enough heat about the lack of PB...<sigh>.

How unbelievable!
CoD has killcam and pure, yet there are over 6,000 on the punksbusted banlist.
This is a shame.....a terrible shame.

I've chosen to not buy the game until PB is added. If it's not, I'm not buying it. I don't need the frustration of having to put up with cheaters.

I agree - even though I was looking forward to the release of this game - with no AC provided - I wont be a purchaser. :(

It is such a disappointment. I was playing on our server tonight and a clan of about 6 people came online and it was so obvious they were cheating.
I was also looking at the scripting of the game files and I can see how the existing cheats can probably be easily ported over to the new game.

Excerpt from XFire chat with IW:
iwriley: Todd: Question - Will Call of Duty 2 have anti-cheat protection?
Answer: The shipping game has Pure servers and Killcam, which helps reduce and spot any cheating. We'll review the process and monitor the game to see if there is any need for added support. If anything were to arise, we will address the issues to keep the game cheat-free, fun, and competitive.
iwboon: re anti-cheat - We're keeping an eye on that. We have 2 petitions here from Call of Duty 1 - the first petition is begging us to add Punkbuster. The second petition is from after we added PB, and it's begging us to remove it.

After seeing that Battlefield 2 was released with PB included right out of the box, PB not being included in CoD2 caught me completely by surprise.
I am most displeased by the prospect of managing servers and competing in TWL ladders with no reliable anti-cheat tools and standards in place.
I do recall that PB was not included in CoD until patch level 1.4 which was released in November 2004 (if memory serves me correctly?), one year and a month after CoD was released in North America. I certainly hope that we don't have to wait that long to see PB included in CoD2, as that would certainly strangle both the CoD2 MP and competition scene.
There is a web-based petition going around to have PB included in CoD2, there's probably already a link posted here on fpsadmin.com for the petition. If you've not signed it already, please do, and spread that URL around on forums that you frequent that might not already have the URL to this petition posted.

Cheers,
Hey this (TNT)Tex, and I was wondering if there was a chance that they may add Punkbuster in a patch or an expansion? Is this even possible? Seems very odd not to have included it!!!
Ghost-Ryder
10-28-2005, 08:49 PM
Sure they can add it.
The only thing is like last game (COD) it takes them forever to bring out a patch.
I've played other games and used to about 3 patches a year for new games but with iw takes them a year to bring out the first one.
I hope they will listen to the feedback, and get a patch out there that includes Punkbuster, and allows the nades to be cooked off too, and any other changes that need to be implemented!!! There have been games that have gotten a patch out the first week, I hope we get that lucky lol!!!

I honestly don't or can't imagine what in the world they were thinking when they decided to not include PB  Since when does any online game NOT include anti-cheat ??? What did they think all of the cheaters where gonna say...OH CoD 2 coming out so I won't cheat any more...LMAO !!!!
This is UN-Believable and it will probabally RUIN what seems to be a AWESOME game...sad, just sad.:(

Lets hope they PB just didnt make it for release. Let;s hope they enable it with the first patch and the patch is soon.
I believe there are some dvars for PB or I seen something in one of the iwd files for PB.
We can only cross our fingers and hope because it's going to go down hill fast without PB.
Is there a way to let Activision know...some feedback for them so that they can see it is a major issue not having Punkbuster!!!

There is a PB petition, I'm not into petition but hey, 3 seconds of your life couldn't hurt
check it out here:
http://new.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?cod2pb
It reads:Just to clear any confusion, this petition is for CALL OF DUTY 2, not the original! To: Activision, Inc As part of the Call of Duty community, we request that PunkBuster be integrated into Call of Duty. PunkBuster will prevent cheaters, therefore extending the life of this great game.
Sincerely,
I signed it last night and there was just under 6000 this morning when I linked to it, it was over 6300. It looks to be growing fast

Here's my take on it, for what it's worth.
A certain Chairman of Marketing and Developement made a conscious decision to not include PB in COD2 in the 1.0 release because he is being frugal. Viewing it from a dollars and cents perspective, It costs money for both contracts and developer time to get Evenbalance on board. Maybe it was a matter of meeting release date windows. Maybe it was a matter of negotiation between parties. Who knows. I would like to think, given the history of Activision releases, that they're just taking a wait-and-see approach. Pragmaticly speaking, why waste the energy on PB if the game completely craters (thinks the CoMD)?
Bottom line? This game will suffer a tremedous indignity if our fervent requests go unanswered.
We're running a private server right now while we shake down the usual stuff like what maps play well as what gametype, Admin utils, etc. I'm perfectly content to leave it private and have it as invite-only for groups and individuals that are conscientious about respectful, cheat-free gameplay. If no PB? It may have to stay that way indefinitely. No biggie. The server itself puts a pretty low demand on our overall load.

Out of curiosity (mostly because I didn't virtually read what I virtually signed) what is the expectation? How many signatures are enough? And how many signatures were grabbed for COD when that petition went around? I remember signing that too, but I've been drunk since then and can't remember the total numbers. It was over 15,000, wasn't it?

ok first off i want to say that if anyone uses this info for anything other than working on a way to stop it then you are a scumbag. with that said i have been a pert of Elite Clan Warfare for a few years and I have helped build and test anticheats since moh and i have seen a whole lot of cheats since that time but this one is something that made me sit back in my chair. ok we are familiar with bots for aiming and everything else well i was working on a checksum script for cod2 to scan the other files in the game and when i seen akll the mods already i figured it would be easier if i found the cheats for the game and do a reverse check, well im glad that it wasnt easy to find the hacks but the one i did find is more than enough to mess the game up for everyone in it. this bot not only comes with the wall hack running its a stand alone that can be anywhere in the pc to make it work but it gets better or worse from my point of view. this thing locks on to the head of the enemy i dont mean it flashes or fires for you it locks on you dont even have to follow the target arround it does it for you thru walls and buildings. so i dont think even if they do finish the pb for cod2 it is going to do any good with this out there. so if any of you can figure out a way to get a small stand alone program that will give the running processes on the client pc i think we can rest easier and just get on with the cartoon killin. i will provide a link to it so you can see for your self . again any one that downloads this for any other reason than to find a way to eliminate it is a dirtbag and has no pride or dignity. Link removed by Rudedog so come on i know there is a way of keeping this out so work with me.

Geez, you're fast, RD...I was just about to do the same.
What if we started a ban list so that we can keep our eyes peeled or even keep these type of people from jumping from server to server. It may not stop the problem but it can at least make them aware that they are being tracked. I got autokick working and it would be nice to have a watch list or ban list going!!! Maybe we can get a ban list forum going, and post the names...or would that cause too many problems for FPS lol. I gues flame wars would start up. Just an idea!!!

It's a good thought, but I think you nailed it with the "flame wars" comment. It could turn into a "no, I didn't!" "yes, you did!" kind of hassle. The only way around that would be some sort of review and appeal process. Don't think we're set up to do that...RD???

While we don't have the infrastructure here at FPSadmin.com or the time to admin this, I would love to help spread the word for DBDLead pedder and his offer. I also know the cheat police does something similar.
My only concern, is you get one bad admin with a chip on his/her shoulder and you have people added to a list for the wrong reason. If could be he/she is an ******* or simply having a bad day. You should take into consideration a way to at least hear people out or some type of arbitration

11-21-2005, 07:34 PM
oh yea there will be no grudge banns as i will be letting all who want to add a person there must be MUST BE a screenshot of the offense or some sort of visible proof of the hacking before it will make it stick in the list this is for the ones who actualy hack not grudges .
More than anything it gives us a record...or a rap sheet of names to look out for, and if these names keep popping up for hacks and cheats, then we will have no problem banning them across the board. I just hope this will all be solved with an AC, and whether it does or not we can still have a list going of those who are in the cheat mode so to speak. I agree there needs to be evidence of the hacking before an out right banning!!!

<flame on> This is why I'm so pissed off at IW/ActiVision! This whole thing is reverting back to the "bad old days" when we had to do bans by word of mouth, and watch out for every little script kiddie and sneak, then document them (as best we could), then pass it around. The Cheat Police helped, but not enough. PB did away with all that crap (or, the bulk of it, anyway). RD's point about an admin having a bad day is a case in point: I seem to remember back in the MOHAdmin days when there was a pretty long, and pretty personal, thread between an admin and a player. I think you had to step in and stop it, RD?? <flame off>
I'll also support Lead Peddler's approach...I just wish it wasn't necessary.

TBH, I have found myself playing SP, yes there is an SP version of COD2 and it comes on the same disc - LOL who would have known these games have this feature of being able to play by yourself against the computer AIl ;)
All kidding aside, IW/ACT better get on the ball. It seems that the game was scaled for the XBox 360 and again us PC games felt the brunt of this.
Funny as us PC gamers are the ones who put CODx on the map. I hope the consoles make a lot of $$ for them......
So not even a hint of info that an AC is forth coming? You would figure they would get the message by now!!! Maybe we will ge lucky and a patch will contain something. Now news maybe that they are tight lipped about a possible AC. We are running Bolts only and at times we wonder about players, so I wind up having to spec for a while when I should be playing lol.

Nothing regarding PB. However there are all sorts of rumors about some other type of AC.
Hell, there isn't even any information regarding a patch. I guess with CoD2 for Xbox released we will see something after everyone comes back from vacation.

believe me this isnt how i wanted things to go either im not a witch burner by any standards but i am however a online cartoon killer as are the rest of you. for the most part i enjoyed having the occasional hack in the server as anyone who remembers me from allied assault or spearhead i will seek em out and beat the tar out of em just to tell em "hey guess the wall hack didnt come with a rear view mirror" but what we have is a complete lack of responsible paper pushers with cod2 seems like the bottom line makes more of a impact then wether or not the game has any kind of future. i seriously doubt if they even thought about the fact that without an anticheat the game will not last. what i am talking about is look at mohaa it still has thousands of servers running spearhead alot less and we dont even discuss the other 2 or three hurry up and make us money that ea threw together for the fast buck. there will be a anticheat for cod2 and it will keep all the hacks out I know this first hand.and it will not be from pb or dmw or the other known places or names. ill keep ya informed. but back to the point of this bann list thing do you think i need any more excitement in myu life im happy with punching holes in targets and stomping on cartoons but when the makers of the games i play refuse to do their jobs then it is up to us to do it for em. just think about this activision and IW you guys got paid for what you made and we are doing it for the love of the hunt and fair play. makes ya wonder who crazier us or the nutz in the farms muhahahaha.......us. well so be it. this has become serious to me as i went into a server last night and saw guys jumping out of closed shutters on windows with no access to the inside part of the window. if it has come to us doing it then hell lets get it done and quit figuring out where to start because that starting time is now and the point to start is the forums at our site. so as they say lets get on with the killin.

well ive been tearing apart the files of cod2 trying to get various mods going some work well some lets just say dont. but in doing so i have noticed there is some referance to pb in the files already so it cantr take that much to finish it off. also from reading and looking ive noticed that when the game was made they did it with sli grafix, well i personally cant afford 5 to 7 hundred a piece x 2 for duel sli video. so when looking at the defauklt cfg settings i noticed they had some strange settings so i kept digging and reading and switching off and on diferent dvars and came up with a small cfg file that can give a boost in game play it also comes with some binds for things like fps display and lagometer and my favorite demo recording hot keys so ya dont have to go thru typing record on and off anymore. just a click of a button and another to shut if off. this works great in matches when console is not available. i have seen similar files on this but some of the settings didnt do much. my squad has all used it and it has given all of em a big boost in fps and even lowering their pings. i have a few minor changes to finish up and it will be available to anyone that wants it. but pb eventualy will be done i just hope it works the way we all need it too. until then i still spec and bann any and all hacks from our servers. if they get tossed in cod2 i make sure to add the ip to our coduo servers as well. hey i hate hacks what can i say. our website is www.dbddivision.com and i have redone the banning section of the forums so if ya have posted there ya may have to repost since the server went crazy and lost my datya base. till next time kill a cartoon guy for me will ya .
