Anybody know what kind of server machines and bandwidth this game will require?

I ran the sp on a 800 mhz P3, so I would think the multiplayer would run fine on that or better. The net connection is probably more important.

These are the published system requirements:

1. Minimum System Requirements:

· 3D Hardware Accelerator Card required – 100% DirectX® 9.0a compatible 32MB Hardware T&L-capable video card and drivers*

· Pentium® III 700 or Athlon™ processor or higher

· English version of Microsoft® Windows® 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP

· 128MB of RAM

· 8x Speed CD-ROM drive (1200KB/sec sustained transfer rate) and drivers

· 181MB of uncompressed free hard disk space (plus 200MB for Windows swap file)

· 100% DirectX® 9.0a compatible 16 bit sound card and drivers

· 100% Windows® 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP compatible mouse, keyboard and drivers

· DirectX® 9.0a (not included)

Important Note: *Some 3D accelerator cards with the chipsets listed here may not be compatible with the 3D acceleration features utilized by the Call Of Duty Burnville Demo. Please refer to your hardware manufacturer for 100% DirectX 9.0a compatibility.

SUPPORTED CHIPSETS:

· ATI® Radeon 7200, 8500, 9000, 9500, 9700, 9800

· All nVidia® GeForce™ chipsets

If they release a linux version, the server should be easier to run. I am thinking about the same cpu usage as Spearhead.

In an email from IW, they said that yes a Linux version of dedicated server will be supplied.

That's the extent of linux info so far.

LOL. Well, in plain english....

The game minimum requirements are pretty low, so a SERVER for the game should be easy to setup, although we don't know how much bandwidth (that thing that can cause lag) it will use.

Because they are releasing a LINUX version of the server, it will make servers easier to setup and bandwidth (see above) MAY be managable. Linux works better as a game server than Windows, because of the ability to do specific operations without messing with starting and stopping the computer.

So, IF there are linux server files available, there will be LOTS of servers available for MULTIPLAYERS right when the game is released.

Any questions?

I ran the SP on a PIII 700mhz with 128mb of ram and a 16mb video card. The game still ran smooth. I would be very surprised if the server hosting companies charged more than they currently do for MOH. My impression of the game was that it actually used less resources than MOH does. Would be nice is the hosting companies kept the same price but upped the slots a bit...doubtful...but nice.

I think that anything above 800 mhz is good for a server. But to really run a server, I would get either dual processers or a really high clocked P4. Linux will help also and I hope they release it right after the game comes out. They said they would be releasing the multiplayer source code when the game comes out and their version of radiant and all that modding stuff. It looks very promising on the modding front.

I read this in a forum, but can't remember which one.

The retail game is designed to install to your specific system.

ie: If your running a P4 306 with an ATI 9k or G4whatever it will utilize your system.

On the other hand, it will run on a 600 mhz system with a Gforce 1 card.

I sure hope there is not anyone with a system that old, but, that is the skinny.

For a DS on the other hand, typically designed for low CPU usage and not needing a video card. I would assume it would use about the same resources as RTCW and MOHAA. Won't know for sure unless IW tells everyone or you install it and check it. That goes for sv_maxrate as well.

New games like Halo don't have adjustable Vars for "maxrate" it auto negotiates what is available or adjusts automatically by seeing the sv_maxplayer/maxclient count. (didn't come across any real info for BW) but it uses on average this.

Bandwidth requirements are roughly, 8k up, and 32k down, or something.)

A full 16 man Halo server averages 600k/s which equals 37.5k per user.

--40k per user--

If your thinking of getting a server on your own, before you lease or buy your own server, take note of what you want to use it for and what you may want it for in the future.

If you want to run one game -don't waist the money on dual Procs, If you want to run multiple games, voice etc... Dualies and fast disks are needed. (don't overclock a CPU(s) for a server if it is remotely located), tears and many bucks will be spent on the first overheat. (even if professional OC'd)
